COLUMBIA, Mo. -(Ammoland.com)- Larry and Brenda Potterfield, owners of MidwayUSA, were recently recognized at the Mid-Missouri Friends of NRA 25th Anniversary banquet for 25 years of fantastic support of the Friends of NRA and the National Rifle Association.
The Potterfields were presented with an American flag plaque and the original FNRA banner used at the very first event in Columbia, MO 25 years ago.
The event was held on Saturday March 11th at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia, MO.
Friends of NRA was first conceptualized by Larry at the 1992 NRA Annual Meetings in Salt Lake City, while he and Wayne Sheets (NRA Director of Planning and Development) were discussing the success of the new [at the time] NRA Round-Up program that MidwayUSA had started that January.
Larry offered they could do more and upon returning home, he and Brenda were going to throw a fundraising party for the NRA. With help from the Potterfields, the first Friends of NRA fundraising banquet was held in Columbia, Missouri in October 1992.
Over the last 25 years, the concept has expanded across the nation and has become one of the most successful programs in the history of the NRA.
Since inception, Friends of NRA has held close to 20,000 events, reached over 3.7 million attendees and raised more than $740 million for The NRA Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
