Police dispatcher claims self-defense in road rage shooting (VIDEO)

An 18-year-old woman was shot in the stomach last week during a road rage incident in Chicago, but the shooter, a police dispatcher, says she fired in self-defense after the teen assaulted her.

As of Friday, the teen remained hospitalized with injuries to her stomach, heart, and pancreas, and was facing at least two additional surgeries. The dispatcher, Kelli McGrath, is facing felony charges and being held on a $100,000 bond.

James McKay, McGrath’s attorney, said his client is the real victim. He said McGrath and the 18 year old became upset with one another before the teen threw a drink at McGrath. The two women stopped their vehicles and McGrath attempted to keep the teen at the scene by blocking her vehicle.

However, an argument ensued, during which time, McKay said, the 18 year old, who had three children in her car, shoved McGrath and physically threw her to the ground.

McGrath, who has a license to carry a concealed firearm, then shot the teen before police arrived on the scene.

McGrath, who has been a dispatcher for more than 20 years, was placed on administrative leave.
