Piles of guns to be auctioned of by GA sheriff (VIDEO)

For the first time, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia will be auctioning off piles of seized firearms thanks to a new law requiring them to do so.

The auction, which will also include cars, heavy equipment and other items, will begin at 9 a.m. Sept. 10. Among the 60 guns to be auctioned this go-around – some previously seized, others once used by the police department – are a Remington 870 12-gauge pump shotgun, a World War II-era M1 Carbine, a Savage Model 110 and a 30.06 bolt-action rifle. There are also scores of handguns and other long guns as well.

Guns previously held for evidence that are no longer needed will be melted down with other scrap metal if they go unclaimed and unsold.
