A 43-year-old man known around Phoenix as the “Zombie Hunter” has been linked to two – possibly four – cold case murders of young women from the 1990s.
Bryan Patrick Miller was arrested in January following forensic tests that linked his DNA to two victims – 21-year-old Angela Brosso and 17-year-old Melanie Bernas, whose mutilated bodies were found in the Arizona Canal more than two decades ago.
“Once you get a suspect in custody you can start working your way back,” said Sgt. Trent Crump with the Phoenix Police Department.
And what authorities have discovered thus far is that Miller is likely responsible for the murders of two more teen girls. He has been linked to the disappearance of 13-year-old Brandy Myers, whose body was never found. She was last seen going door to door, collecting money for a school project in 1992. Miller is also a suspect in the 1992 murder of 16-year-old Shannon Aumock, whose body was found dumped in the desert.
According to Crump, authorities turned their eyes on Miller after he apparently admitted to his ex-wife that he killed a young girl who came soliciting at his door, then dismembered and disposed of her body.
“Investigators from our cold case squads have not given up on these cases,” Crump said. “We won’t give up in them. We want to see closure for the families.”
Miller currently faces two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Brosso and Bernas, but pleaded not guilty to both.
