A state trooper died after being shot Tuesday just before 5 o’clock p.m. during a training exercise at the Montgomery County Public Safety Training Complex in Conshohocken, outside of Philadelphia.
Trooper David Kedra was transported to the hospital via helicopter following the accident, where he was pronounced dead, the Associated Press reported.
Few details have been released at this time, but authorities did confirm that the shooting was an accident and the bullet pierced Kedra’s chest.
“It’s with an extremely heavy heart and deep sorrow that I announce the tragic death of Trooper David Kedra,” State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan said in a statement. “He died serving the people of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the men and women of the Pennsylvania State Police mourn his loss and extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends.”
Kedra, 26, had been with the Pennsylvania State Police since June of 2012.
