DNA Phenotyping Cited as the Future of DNA Forensics
Reston, Va. (Ammoland.com) – Parabon NanoLabs’ (Parabon), Snapshot DNA Phenotyping Service will be featured on Xploration Earth 2050 on Fox television channels beginning 7 Nov 2015. In an episode entitled “The Future of Forensic Science,” series host Chuck Pell will take viewers behind the scenes to see how law enforcement is using futuristic technologies to solve cold cases and fight crime. The show’s four segments will cover analytics and computers in crime fighting, geographic profiling, computer document analysis software (high-tech handwriting analysis), and DNA phenotyping (predicting appearance from DNA) with Parabon Snapshot.
Xploration Earth 2050, part of the Xploration Station syndicated series from Steve Rotfeld Productions, is in its second season, after being nominated for a Daytime Emmy for its first season. The program explores what our world will be like in 2050 through a mind bending journey on the advancements in science, technology, engineering and math. Earth 2050 is designed to promote the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) initiative to an audience of junior high and high school students. Every episode explores groundbreaking innovations as told through the experts in their various fields. By showing how today’s technologies and the people behind them are laying the foundation for an incredibly bright future, the show helps promote careers in the sciences to the younger generation.
Dr. Ellen McRae Greytak, Director of Bioinformatics at Parabon, commented, “We are enthusiastic supporters of programs that promote STEM education to young people, so we were pleased to be able to work with the Xploration Earth 2050 producers on this project.” She added, “Although DNA phenotyping represents a major advancement in forensics, the field is still in its early days, so it was fun to contemplate what Snapshot will be able to do by the year 2050. Will we be able to predict someone’s driver’s license photo? Maybe so.”
