A police officer was shot and killed while serving a search warrant in Seaside, Oregon, Friday night around 9:20.
Jason Goodding, 39, was serving the warrant when a confrontation occurred with the suspect outside of the Pig ’N’ Pancake restaurant. Eyewitnesses said Goodding used his taser on the suspect before he was shot at least three times. A second law enforcement officer who was nearby then returned fire, striking the suspect an unknown number of times.
Both Goodding and the suspect were transported to the hospital, where Gooddring, who was a 13-year veteran with the department, died the following morning. The suspect’s condition is not known at this time.
A press release by the Seaside Police Department asked for respect and consideration for the officer’s family, and according to Clatsop County District Attorney Josh Marquis, the incident is under investigation by the Major Crimes Team.
