Opinion: “Empathizing” with Hilary Clinton (VIDEO)

What did former First Lady, Former Secretary of State, and, now very likely the former 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton just say about empathizing with all of our enemies? Well, in a recent speech given to a half-empty auditorium at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, Mrs. Clinton said, in part, “Trying to understand, insofar as psychologically possible, empathize with their perspective and point of view.” She was referring to the enemies of the United States!

Yes, as incredible as that sounds, that is exactly what she said and what she meant. So, in order for my little pea brain to better understand her point of view, I had to look up the word ’empathize’ in my pocket edition of The Merriam-Webster Dictionary. According to the dictionary, the word ’empathy’ means, “The experiencing as one’s own of the feelings of another.” Are you just flipping kidding me here? She’s suggesting that we see the world through the eyes of ISIS, of al-Qaeda, of Boko Haram, and all the other savages? Is she saying that we must understand and have sympathy for Putin’s thugs who invaded the Crimea, for Hamas or Hezzbollah who hate us and the Israelis?

Okay, I know, my brain may be a little stuck on repeat today due to my fourth cup of Folger’s coffee, but I just couldn’t let this one go. So, I then went to my giant hardbound Random House Dictionary of the English Language, and this is what I found: “The intellectual identification with or vicarious experiencing of the feelings, thoughts, or attitudes of another. Empathy is more enduring and valuable than romantic love. The ascribing to an object or thought or feeling present in oneself.”

So, that’s it then, we are to feel what they feel. We are to imagine our fingers on the triggers of the weapons that have taken the lives of our men and women in our military. We are to view the images of two falling towers in New York City on September 11, 2001, and celebrate, as they celebrated all across every Muslim country in the world. We are to see the horrific video of our ambassador to Libya being brutally raped, and having his testicles removed by a steel weed auger, and then we are to think that it doesn’t matter. And of all the Christian men, women and children being beheaded by ISIS, we are to understand the savage’s point of view as if it were our own. Because, you see, that is what it means, and that is what Hillary Clinton thinks.

Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North, in response to Mrs. Clinton’s outrageous statement, while on the Fox News channel’s On The Record with Greta Van Susteren show, said, “Those words coming out of someone who intends to become Commander-In-Chief are not just naive and utopian, it’s irrational.” So, okay, I had to look up the word “utopian” too! Colonel North went on to say, “Think about December 7, 1941 and then FDRT going to the Congress of the United States the next day saying, ‘We need to have more empathy for Japan.’” North then said, “This is unilateral disarmament. This is not someone who’s a write-in candidate. She just wrote off being president of the United States.”

Mrs. Clinton’s claim that her point of view is akin to “smart power,” or a 21st century approach to diplomacy, is nothing short of mind-boggling. Yes, I’ll bet any money that when the day ahead of us occurs, when this statement is read back to her on camera, she will smile and smugly nodding her head as is her habit, and suggest that the word was taken out of context.

I however believe her.  Mrs. Clinton, very possibly now the former 2016 presidential candidate, says what she believes.
