The Award-Winning Black Bird Line Welcomes a Compact Addition
Franklinville, NY -(Ammoland.com)- Building on the success of the Black Bird line, Ontario Knife Company (OKC) is proud to introduce the OKC Black Bird SK-4.
Every experienced outdoorsman knows the importance of saving as much weight and space as possible; to that end, the new SK-4 provides a compact variant on an already award-winning design.
“In keeping with my design ideals of simplicity and pure function, the SK-4 employs the same materials, blade geometry and smooth radius handles as its bigger brother, the SK-5. Scaling it down by removing an inch of blade and an inch of handle allows the tool to be more at home in lightweight applications like backpacking and bug out,” said Paul Scheiter, designer of the Black Bird series. “The blade itself is also slightly thinner, which translates to easier carving. If there’s one thing you’ll miss when comparing it to the SK-5, it’s the generous blade length for batoning. That said, the SK-4 retains 90% of the capability while going to a much more compact tool.”

The fixed blade, full-tang Black Bird SK-4 has an overall length of 8-inches with a 4-inch blade, compared to the 10-inch overall and 5-inch blade of the original SK-5. Scheiter’s design features a spear-point profile that is sleek and exceptionally resistant to breakage. The ergonomic shape of the handle is complimented by mildly textured G10 scales that deliver comfort during prolonged use.
Hunters will like the size of the Black Bird SK-4 for its versatility as a field dressing knife and a survival tool. The sharp edge allows for precision work while the 154CM stainless steel will stand up to hard use and exposure to the elements. For the bushcraft and camping crowd, the SK-4 excels at carving, food preparation and creating feather sticks for a fire. The 90-degree angle on the spine also excels at striking ferrocerium-based fire starting devices.
“For me, the Black Bird line symbolizes high quality and superior functionality,” observed Deneb Pirrone, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for OKC. “The Black Bird SK-4 is an outdoorsman’s everyday carry.”
The Black Bird SK-4 includes a MOLLE compatible nylon sheath with a solid snap to keep the knife firmly in place until it is needed.
Like all knives in the Black Bird line, the Black Bird SK-4 is proudly Made-in-the-USA and backed by OKC’s lifetime warranty. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is $229.95. (less online)
