On Tax Day, Buz Mills Calls for Tax Cuts
Proposals to raise state taxes would hurt residents and businesses, delay economic recovery says Gunsite’s Buzz Mills and candidate for AZ governor.
Phoenix, AZ –-(AmmoLand.com)- As millions of Americans faced the Thursday deadline to file their taxes, candidate for Arizona governor Buz Mills called on state officials to drop plans to make the tax burden on residents and businesses even heavier.
This year, the average American had to work from January 1 to April 9 before he or she earned enough money to pay this year’s tax obligations at the federal, state and local levels, according to the Tax Foundation, a nonpartisan tax research group based in Washington, D.C.
Mills reiterated his opposition to a proposed state sales tax hike intended to raise an additional $3 billion to help balance the state budget. Mills also opposed a plan, floated by hospitals that supported Obamacare, to raise the state’s top income tax rate by 22 percent. The hospitals’ income tax hike proposal has since been scrapped, but plans to jack up the sales tax live on.
Adding additional taxes during a recession only deflates Arizona’s potential economic recovery, Mills said. Instead, state officials can foster economic growth through tax cuts and spending reductions.
Mills has endorsed plans to cut the capital gains tax, the corporate income tax rate and statewide property taxes. The state can reduce spending, as well, by cutting spending across-the-board, streamlining operations, and eliminating waste, he said.
