Wilshire Gun is looking to make Oklahoma history by becoming the first gun range in the state to serve alcohol on-site.
Wilshire Gun is scheduled to open this coming spring and if everything goes according to plan, patrons will be able to do more than just get behind a gun. Co-owner Jeff Swanson says the 40,000 square foot establishment will have 24 firearm lanes, 10 archery lanes, a simulation room, classrooms, a VIP Lounge and a bar, FOX-Oklahoma City reports.
“As a group we wanted to build a place, the first one in Oklahoma, where you could go in, shoot, enjoy the retail area and then go to the café,” Swanson said.
While Swanson’s plans of including an on-site bar at his shooting range have caused concern for some, he says certain safety measures will be put in place to ensure alcohol and firearms don’t mix.
“Once you order a drink your driver’s license is scanned and you are red-flagged and you’re not allowed into any of the shooting facilities either as a spectator and certainly not as a shooter for the remainder of the day,” Swanson said.
The City Planning Commission has already voted to let Swanson move forward with his plan, and the Oklahoma City Council will hold a vote on May 27. If Wilshire Gun attains its liquor license it will be the first shooting range in Oklahoma to serve alcoholic beverages.
