A Salt Lake City police officer is being called an angel by the two women he saved last week during a violent home invasion.
The officer, who has not been named, was responding to a call about an attempted break-in a few doors down when the suspect broke into the home of Bre and Kayli Lasley.
Bre was stabbed multiple times while being attacked by the suspect, who assured her that she was going to die. As she struggled with the suspect, who was later identified as Robert Berger, 48, she saw a shadow whom she first thought was the Berger’s accomplice and feared her sister was dead. But the figure turned out to be the officer, who fired a single shot, fatally striking Berger in the head.
“I felt the suspect tighten as if he’s going to cut me,” recalled Bre, “And that’s when the officer took his life and saved mine.”
