Wildlife biologist Andrea Turkalo shared with NPR’s Morning Edition how she had to quickly flee the bai last year as war closed in in Central African Republic, shortly before the elephant slaughter. But she’s still working to try to save the elephants that remain — collaborating, in part, with Nir Kalron, a former Israeli soldier who now works for Maisha Consulting, a security company in Tel Aviv that specializes in wildlife protection.
