GRNC Victory for Gun Owners!
Raleigh, NC -(Ammoland.com)- For months, sheriff departments around the state have been using delays in the receipt of medical information as an excuse to illegally delay the issuance of pistol purchase permits.
In many cases, these bureaucratic delays were egregious, far exceeding the time limits that the law allows. GRNC is elated to announce that those days are nearly over! Thanks to heroic efforts by Representative Michael Speciale (R-District 3; Beaufort, Craven, Pamlico), Senators Phil Berger (R-District 26; Guilford, Rockingham) and Shirley Randleman (R-District 30; Stokes, Surry, Wilkes), and the activism of supporters like you, we have been able to secure a sunset clause in the law’s medical release language.
Fixing the NRA’s Sellout
You may remember that recently, GRNC sent an alert explaining that the NRA and others appeared to be colluding with the NC Sheriff’s Association (NCSA) and RINOs in the General Assembly to block serious efforts to make a change to the medical release system. Let’s just say they held a meeting about gun rights, but failed to invite representatives from the state’s most effective, no-compromise gun rights organization. In any case, our unwillingness to give in has paid off.
GRNC ran an end-around against the sellout by the NRA, the NC Rifle and Pistol Association and the NCSA. Going forward, once medical records are digitized, there will no longer be a requirement to fill out a paper ‘Medical Release’ form, and no excuse will remain for sheriff’s departments to wait for paper-based responses from the medical community.
Kicking and screaming they may be, but GRNC is bringing the NCSA and other bureaucrats involved in these processes into the twenty-first century.
Thank you Rep. Speciale, and thank you GRNC volunteers and supporters!
