Celebrity chef Artis Leon Ivey Jr., who performed as Coolio in the 1990s, was arrested Saturday and booked for possession of a firearm by a felon after TSA found a gun in his baggage.
As noted by tabloid TMZ, a book bag belonging to the entourage contained a loaded gun. Though a member of Coolio’s crew claimed the bag, witnesses told cops it was the entertainer who formerly worked at LAX as a security guard. A felon, the chef known for his cookbook and web series titled “Cookin’ with Coolio,” was convicted of being an accessory to robbery in 1998.
“Upon arrival airport police immediately took possession of a carry-on bag in the X-ray screening belt,” LAX police Officer Alicia Hernandez told the Los Angeles Daily News.
The gun was later determined to be stolen.
According to Rolling Stone, he booked into Los Angeles Police Department’s Pacific Station Saturday and released on $37,808 bail.
Coolio posted a video statement about the “misunderstanding” at LAX below over some Chinese food, saying “I don’t know what’s going to be the result of this in the future but for now, I’m fine and I appreciate everyone’s concern.”
