A New Jersey state trooper is in a bit of hot water after he allegedly pulled over women just to ask them out.
Marquice Prather, 37, was arrested Friday for third-degree tampering with public records or information and fourth-degree falsifying or tampering with records. He is expected to plead not guilty, according to his attorney. Prather was released without bail but remains suspended from his job without pay.
Authorities were alerted to the possible misconduct after several women came forward with accusations. An investigation then revealed that Prather, a three-year veteran of the force, targeted women between the ages of 20 and 35. During the so-called traffic stops, Prather turned off his microphone, falsely saying it had malfunctioned, and asked the women for their phone numbers or to go out on dates with him. Investigators also found Prather attempted to hide the fact he was targeting women by manipulating data.
If convicted, Prather could face up five years in prison and a fine of up to $15,000.
