Trenton, NJ –-(Ammoland.com)- US SENATE RACE: The outcome of yesterday’s special U.S. Senate election was very disappointing.

While there will be no net change in the vote count in the U.S. Senate on Second Amendment issues as a result of the election, the opportunity the special election presented was significant and mobilized gun owners throughout the state.

Interestingly, voter turnout was a lot higher than expected, with about 1.3 million votes cast among all 8 candidates. With nearly 580,000 votes cast for Lonegan and wins for Lonegan in several counties, anti-gun politicians were deprived of the “mandate” they had hoped for.

Gun owners came out in force, which should be a wake-up call to anti-gun politicians since every seat in the NJ State House is up for re-election on November 5 2013. Gun owners need to sustain and increase their efforts over the next 2.5 weeks to pay back those in Trenton who have attacked the Second Amendment, and ensure the re-election of pro-gun legislators. Please see the November-December issue of News & Briefs, on its way to your mailbox right now, for the ANJRPC PAC’s candidate ratings and endorsements and other election coverage.

SMART GUNS: Recent media reports hinting at imminent implementation of New Jersey’s infamous “smart gun” law are overstated. While the bringing to market of a working “smart gun” could trigger the provisions of the 2002 law, the law requires a 2.5 to 3 year period before the law’s restrictions on conventional handguns would take effect. During this period, the government would have to test and certify “smart” gun models, following which there would be a lengthy waiting period (approximately 2.5 years) before the restrictions would apply. Also, it is not a foregone conclusion that the firearm discussed in recent media reports would even qualify as a “smart gun” under the law’s definition, or that New Jersey would certify it. ANJRPC has closely monitored the smart gun issue since its passage in 2002, and will spare no effort or resource (whether through litigation or otherwise) to ensure that the law’s ban on conventional handguns never takes effect.

ANJRPC ANNUAL BANQUET SATURDAY: Come join New Jersey’s Second Amendment leaders at the ANJRPC combined Annual Meeting Banquet and Friends of NRA Dinner & Auction on Saturday, October 19 starting at 6:00 p.m. Anticipated to be one of the largest Friends of NRA Banquets in the state, the festivities are guaranteed to be lively. The auction portion of the banquet will feature one-of-a-kind NRA-branded collectible merchandise, and half the proceeds will be donated back to New Jersey shooters by the NRA Foundation. Banquet seating ($60 per ticket) is open to the public on a first come, first-served basis. Prepay for a ticket to ensure that seats are still available and that the event is not sold out (contact Jennifer Pantano at bulletholeinc@verizon.net or 201-268-2618).
