Nightclub owner fatally shoots unruly patron during assault (VIDEO)

The owner of a private gay club in Rock Hill, South Carolina, shot and killed a patron early Sunday morning, but authorities say it appears to have been an act of self-defense.

The patron was escorted out of The Hideaway Club after he got into a fight inside the establishment, and while 28-year-old man left, he returned around 1 a.m. in an attempt to get back inside. When the man was denied entry, he assaulted the 76-year-old club owner.

York County sheriff’s deputies said the owner pulled out a gun, after feeling threatened, and shot the man, who has not yet been publicly identified. The man was transported to a Charlotte-area hospital, where he later died.

Area resident Joette Stevenson described the club owner as a “very, very nice guy.” Other residents say, other than occasional noise, there has never been a problem with the club in the past.
