Police in New York shot a man Monday morning in an incident that was captured on Facebook Live.
Anthony Logan, 23, survived the shooting at a home in Schenectady, according to the Daily Gazette.
Police responded to the home just before 10 a.m. for a domestic dispute call. In the video, officers can be seen pointing rifles at a second floor porch of the home. That’s where Logan was when he quickly made a movement with his right arm.
The man who recorded the Facebook Live video, Schenectady resident Robert van Outlar, said it looked like Logan was holding a gun when he made the quick movement. That’s when police opened fire.
“It felt like time stopped and was going fast, if that makes any sense,” said van Outlar.
“He reached seemingly under the railing and quickly raised his arm and immediately thrust it toward the officers in a very aggressive gesture,” said Schenectady County District Attorney Robert Carney.
After he was shot, Logan immediately falls out of sight of van Outlar’s camera. About a half hour later, he stood up, and his white t-shirt was blood red. Not long after, he fell back onto the porch.
For hours, an officer used a loudspeaker to relay demands to Logan about a gun. At around 12:30 p.m., a SWAT team entered the home and Logan was taken to the hospital.
After getting Logan out of the house, police pulled back out of the home and waited for a search warrant. It’s not clear if a gun was recovered at the scene.
Logan is on parole for a 2012 criminal possession of a weapon charge, for which he pleaded guilty.
