An argument in Carteret County, North Carolina, Sunday ended with one man shot and another man in jail.
Alex Becker, 20, was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill for shooting Jeffrey Joseph, 43, who was also armed with a handgun at the time of the incident.
According to a press release from the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office, Joseph, was engaged in an argument with Becker’s mother when Becker attempted to intervene.
During the confrontation, Joseph fired a single shot in the air, then additional shots in Becker’s direction. Becker then left the property and went to his own residence to retrieve a shotgun.
Soon thereafter, Becker returned to the home where his mother and Joseph were and fired at Joseph multiple times, striking him in the stomach.
Joseph was transported to the hospital where his condition was stabilized. Becker was arrested and is being held on a $100,000 bond.
At the time of the shooting, Becker was out on a $50,000 bond stemming from an unrelated incident in which he was charged with burglary, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon and two additional assault charges with different victims.
The investigation is ongoing.
