The complete professional journal of the law enforcement special operations community is now available to members of the NTOA.
Doylestown, Pa. (February 2018) – The National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) is pleased to announce the winter edition of The Tactical Edge is now available. Widely considered to be the leading authority in tactical operations information, The Tactical Edge reaches more than 40,000 law enforcement officers throughout the United States, Canada and around the world.
Members-only features include “Impediments to Situational Awareness” by Bruce Liebe and “What Law Enforcement Needs to Know About Criminal Snipers” by Derrick Bartlett. Also featured is “The Dollars and Sense of Negotiating” by Jack Maxwell and Ronald Davis, and “Lessons in Leadership: Having Those Difficult Discussions” by Phil Hansen. The entire issue is available online to law enforcement officers who become a member of the NTOA.
The NTOA has also made several articles available online to nonmembers, including “Balancing High Operational Load While Sustaining Conditioning” by Shane Irving. In this article, Irving dives into how balancing operational needs while maintaining optimum human output capacity is a constant juggling act for law enforcement officers, and proposes several strategies to manage workforce fatigue and optimize physical performance. Also featured is “Active Shooter: Who Are We Preparing?” by Kenneth E. Lott. Lott recommends that law enforcement offer active shooter response training through public forums to educate civilians so that should they be in harm’s way, they will have the tools to prolong their own life or the lives of those around them, while providing emergency responders with more time to join the fight.
Other items of interest include a book review by Bob Ragsdale on Dennis Flynn’s “Held Hostage: Negotiating Life and Death for the Las Vegas Police Department,” the Executive Director’s message and a profile of NTOA Command College student Lt. Drew LeBlanc of Lafayette Parish (LA) Sheriff’s Office.
The Tactical Edge has been providing the law enforcement community with cutting edge, lifesaving information from leading experts for more than 30 years and is the winner of multiple awards, including the 2006 American In-House Design Award from Graphic Design USA and the 2013 APEX Award for Publication Excellence from Communications Concepts. It is published quarterly in February, May, August and November.
