Philadelphia, PA -(AmmoLand.com)- The Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies (AFWA) recognized four individuals, three state agencies and one private landowner for their dedication to advancing fish and wildlife conservation at the Association’s Annual Awards Ceremony held on September 13, 2016 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Association presented a special recognition awards for outstanding commitment to the work of AFWA to Roy Grimes. Over the last fifteen years, Mr. Grimes has led the efforts of the National Archery in the Schools Program, or NASP. Roy, who had served Fish & Wildlife Agencies in Indiana, Kansas, Missouri and finally Kentucky was asked by KY Commissioner Tom Bennett to develop what would later be called “NASP.” NASP, an international-style target archery program, was designed to achieve specific and targeted educational and conservation related goals.
“Having spent 30 years as a state wildlife agency biologist, I consider members of AFWA my peers,” said Roy Grimes, President of NASP. “It is a terrific honor to have the National Archery in the Schools Program recognized by AFWA professionals for its efforts to establish millions of student archers every year.”
“Over the course of its 15 year existence, The National Archery in the Schools Program has now involved over sixteen million student archers in 47 states, and 11 other countries,” said NASP Vice President and General manager Tommy Floyd. “We believe that NASP represents one of the most positive forces in archery today. We also believe that it is highly beneficial to the students, educators and coaches that participate.”
“Roy would be the first person to say that it is never about any one person and that NASP is a team effort involving the vision and hard work of many extremely dedicated people over time. He would be the first to credit our NASP team, the NASP board, and our many sponsors and supporters for our success. However, through Roy’s consistent and focused leadership, NASP has continued to grow and expand at a rate of about 1000 schools per year. It is evident that many leaders in the archery industry and fish and wildlife agencies agreed with the value of Roy’s leadership as they enthusiastically provided letters of support for Roy’s nomination. This is yet another example of how exciting it is to be a part of the National Archery in the Schools Program. Congratulations to Roy and NASP!”
