When Cleveland police, still shaken over an officer-involved shooting earlier in the day, responded to a call about a man with a gun Sunday evening, they rolled up to discover a 24-year-old man waving a gun in the air, while 18-year-old Ezri Walker recorded him with a video camera.
The 24-year-old, whose name was not released, was arrested and charged with inducing panic, while Walker’s mother was also arrested for obstruction of justice.
But it turned out that the gun the man was waving wasn’t real, but rather a replica, and the men were in the middle of making a music video when officers received the 911 call.
Cleveland Police Sgt. Janell Rutherford, showing the gun to reporters, demonstrated how dangerous replicas can be.
“This is how real they look,” she said. “This is life or death. One second, two seconds for them or for us.”
Ironically, Walker, who admitted it probably wasn’t so smart to film the video using the gun without first notifying authorities, said the video was meant “to promote positivity and bring out positivity from such a negative environment.”
“This is a negative environment, it can be,” Walker said. “There was a situation earlier where there was a shooting, the shootings here are frequent, so we are trying to take that and flip it.”
