Fort St. John, ON -(AmmoLand.com)- Bob Zimmer, Member of Parliament for Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies, is expressing his concerns with news of a ruling by the RCMP’s Canadian Firearms Program which has made the Ruger 10/22 magazine prohibited.
Many constituents have reached out to Mr. Zimmer after hearing of an RCMP memo being sent to police agencies about the Ruger 10/22 magazine classification.
In a letter addressed to RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson, Mr. Zimmer conveyed his concerns, as well as those he has heard from constituents.
“I have heard from many constituents who are concerned that this bureaucratic decision to change the classification of the Ruger 10/22 magazine, without a public bulletin, will now make many law-abiding firearms owners unknowingly considered criminals,” said Mr. Zimmer.
Mr. Zimmer goes on to point out that this ruling goes against Criminal Code Regulations which state that cartridge magazines that are originally designed or manufactured for use in a firearm that is chambered for, or designed for use, rimfire cartridges are not included in these magazine restrictions.
“I urge you to reverse this unfortunate decision which has done nothing to promote public safety, and has only created fear and uncertainty within the law-abiding firearms community,” concludes Mr. Zimmer’s letter to Commissioner Paulson.
