When Jordyn Howe was 15 he brought a gun onto the bus to school and showed his friend, 13-year-old Lourdes “Jina” Guzman-DeJesus. At first he pointed the gun at the floor, pulled the trigger, but nothing happened. And then he pointed it at Guzman-DeJesus, pulled the trigger and to his surprise, it went off, killing her.
Ady DeJesus, the victim’s mother, spoke about the incident in court and, surprising everyone, including the judge, forgave Howe for his foolishness.
