Mother charged after she accidentally shot, killed teen son (VIDEO)

A Clayton County, Georgia, mother is facing several charges, including aggravated assault and cruelty to children, after her attempts to break up a fight outside her apartment building Saturday night resulted in the death of her 15-year-old son.

The teen, Pierre Tilson, was apparently trying to protect his 13-year-old sister who was being bullied by a group of teens outside of the apartment. When the situation escalated, the teen’s mother, Latoya Tilson, stepped in to intervene, but when she was hit in the face by one of the teens in the crowd, she pulled out a small-caliber handgun and opened fire. Tilson struck one of the teens involved in the scuffle, but she also accidentally shot her son in the face.

When officers arrived, they attempted to revive Pierre, who was visiting his mother for Easter weekend, but the attempts were unsuccessful. He was transported to the hospital, where he died Monday afternoon. The other teen suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his buttocks.

Latoya was taken to jail, where she reportedly remains on suicide watch. Pierre’s father said he knows it was an accident and he forgives her.
