The high-profile case of Michael Dunn, who fatally shot 17-year-old Jordan Davis in the parking lot of a gas station in Jacksonville, Florida in 2012, following an altercation over loud music, has been turned into a documentary which will air on HBO later this year.
The network gained the rights to the film titled “3 1/2 Minutes” after its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival last week.
“I am grieved that these continuing stories are everyday matters swept away,” Sheila Nevins, president of HBO Documentary Films said in a statement. “By bringing this powerful film to HBO audiences we hope to elevate the national conversation around these tragic issues.”
Dunn claimed he opened fire on the teens after he heard one of them say, “I should kill that motherf*****,” and noticed what he thought was the barrel of a gun pointing out of the window. No gun was recovered from the teen’s vehicle, and Dunn, who initially left the scene without calling the police, was later convicted of first-degree murder.
