Michael Culligan, Sr., Awarded “Hero of Green” from Eastern Sports & Outdoor Show
HARRISBURG, PA—Michael Culligan, Sr., (Maryland, NY) has been named a “Hero of Green,” by the Eastern Sports & Outdoor Show presented by Chevrolet.
The Eastern Sports & Outdoor Show awards $100 in Sports Show Spending Cash to people who develop and sustain conservation efforts. Culligan’s winning essay will be displayed at the Chevrolet booth in the Fishing Hall at the 2009 Eastern Sports & Outdoor Show, February 7-15.
Culligan received his “Hero of Green” award for his efforts to attract youth to conservation and the outdoors. He and his friends built a hunting cabin and camp that youth use to learn about hunting, fishing and the outdoors.
“We have shooting contests and game-playing nights such as pitch night, poker night and checkers night. We prepare unique dinner dishes such as woodchuck, bear and beaver. We tried to instill in the kids that killing isn’t the most fun of hunting or fishing but the enjoyment of being together is. Our plan has worked! We have youth who love coming to camp to hunt and fish. We will be able to see our love for the land continue for another generation,” said Culligan.
