The Mexican military chopper crossed into Arizona and fired two shots at Border Patrol agents just outside the Tohono O’odham Indian Reservation.
A Mexican military helicopter crossed the U.S. border into Arizona and fired on Border Patrol agents early Thursday morning.
The Mexican law enforcement helicopter entered into Arizona airspace around 5:45 a.m. The chopper fired two shots at U.S. Border Patrol agents just outside the village of San Miguel, but missed them, local media reports. No one was injured.
The helicopter then turned around and flew back into Mexico. Mexican authorities later apologized to the U.S. for firing on them.
According to a statement released to local media by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, the incident is still under investigation.
“At approximately 5:45 a.m. Thursday morning, a Mexican law enforcement helicopter crossed approximately 100 yards north into Arizona nearly 8 miles southwest of the Village of San Miguel on the Tohono O’odham Indian Nation while on a law enforcement operation near the border,” the statement said. “Two shots were fired from the helicopter but no injuries or damage to U.S. property were reported. The incident is currently under investigation.”
