Skinny Puppy founder cEvin Key wasn’t happy to learn his music was used to torture prisoners in Guantanamo Bay, so he invoiced the U.S. military for services rendered.
Metal band Skinny Puppy invoiced the U.S. government after discovering their music was used to torture prisoners held in Guantanamo Bay, the Independent reports.
“We heard through a reliable grapevine that our music was being used in Guantanamo Bay prison camps to musically stun or torture people,” says founder cEvin Key. “We heard that our music was used on at least four occasions.”
Key wasn’t happy to learn his music was being as a form of torture, but understands why the military chose his songs.
“Because we make unsettling music, we can see it being used in a weird way. But it doesn’t sit right with us.”
However, Key doesn’t plan to let the military off the hook and has sent them an invoice for services rendered. Not only that, he’s used the whole situation as a source of inspiration for a new album.
“So we thought it would be a good idea to make an invoice to the U.S. government for musical services. Thus the concept of the [band’s new] record title, ‘Weapons.’”
