An unidentified 45-year-old man suffered third-degree burns on 10 percent of his body after setting himself on fire outside of Trump Hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C., Tuesday night, apparently in protest of Trump’s impending inauguration.
Other protesters were gathered in the streets while the man, who was said to be from California, used some type of accelerant and a lighter to set himself ablaze, before eventually putting out the flames.
A man working in a nearby construction area said he heard the protester, who appeared to be angry, utter something about Donald Trump. The protester later said on camera he believed Trump was “incapable of respecting the Constitution.”
The man’s injuries were not life-threatening.
