Man Pulls Gun on Cop in Police Department Lobby, DA Says Cop Shooting Him was Justified (VIDEO)

The Salt Lake County District Attorney has determined this week that an officer’s use of force in April was justifiable. The shooting occurred when James Ramsey Kammeyer Jr. entered the lobby of the police department, acting “fidgety” and “nervous,” and asked to speak with a detective about a crime.

When Sgt. Jeff Conger entered the lobby area, Kammeyer pulled a gun on him, which led the officer to shoot at him several times. Kammeyer was struck by gunfire, but suffered non-life threatening wounds.

It was later discovered that the gun in Kammeyer’s possession wasn’t even loaded. His wife believes that he was attempting suicide-by-cop, stating that he wanted someone to kill him “because he didn’t have the guts to do it himself.”

Kammeyer is charged with threat of terrorism, three counts of aggravated assault and use of a firearm by a restricted person, all of which are felony counts. In addition, he is also currently facing a federal charge for possessing child pornography.
