USA –-(Ammoland.com)- WECT TV 6 (Jim Gentry) in Wilmington, North Carolina reports 06-24-19, a Whiteville man is accused of trying to force his ex-girlfriend into a car at gunpoint.
According to Michele Tatum with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to R L McCoy Drive at around 3 A.M. in reference to a disturbance involving weapons.
The female victim told deputies that her ex-boyfriend broke into her residence while armed with a firearm. The ex-boyfriend then pushed her out of the home at gunpoint and struck her multiple times with a closed fist and the firearm.
While the intruder was attempting to force the victim into his vehicle, her roommate intervened and held the suspect at gunpoint until law enforcement arrived.
Police said the kidnapper had disposed of his firearm but it was found where a witness saw him discard it.
The intruder has been charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon and is being held on $102,500 bail.
Comments:
From the information available, this is clearly a reasonable “pointing a firearm” incident. I have to wonder why her roommate did not intervene a whole lot sooner.
Filing of a protective order against the ex-boyfriend would certainly have helped defuse any question of liability here.
Always make a written record of your situation, if not with police then with a private attorney or several of your close friends.
