Lucy McBath was honored by VH1 over the weekend as the 2016 Dear Mama Mother of the Year.
McBath is the mother of 17-year-old Jordan Davis, who was shot and killed in 2012 following a confrontation over loud music in the parking lot of a Jacksonville, Florida, gas station. McBath has since become an activist for gun reform.
Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton took a few minutes from her campaign schedule to reach out to McBath and recognize the work she does.
“Lucy, honestly, I don’t know how you do what you do,” Clinton said. “From the Walk With Jordan Scholarship Foundation, to your advocacy for common-sense gun laws, you’re moving mountains through your faith and determination.”
The Dear Mama event is a special time for A-listers to offer words of affection and appreciation for their mothers on Mother’s Day.
