The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Department is offering a firearms class this Saturday, Jan. 12, for kids aged 8-12. The class, designed for kids who might have received a gun of some sort as a holiday present, will focus on the basics of BB-guns, rimfire rifles, and small bore shotguns.
The idea is to offer formal training in firearms use and safety early, especially for those learning to use their first gun. “Children who will receive a gun for Christmas can try it for the first time in front of certified law enforcement academy firearms instructors,” Sheriff Steve Prator told the Shreveport Times. “Parents are wise to want their children to know basic firearms.”

We at Guns.com couldn’t agree more. The class runs from 8:00 a.m. to noon, and a responsible adult will need to accompany each participant.
I wish I had one of these programs when I was 8. BB-guns, .22 rifles, and some skeet shooting. It sounds like a great way to spend a Saturday morning, and a model program for those of us interested in firearms education.
