What was initially a response to a domestic call resulted in a group of Canadian police officers coming together to help an elderly couple in need.
When authorities arrived at the Cornwall, Ontario, home where the call originated, they found an elderly couple engaged in an argument. Officers soon discovered that the woman suffers from dementia and the man had recently pawned his wedding ring to buy groceries. The officers pooled their own cash together and came up with nearly $300 to purchase groceries for the elderly couple and to get the man’s ring out of pawn.
Authorities also provided resources for the couple, who have been married for more than 50 years, should they need help in the future.
