BEAVERTON, Ore. –-(Ammoland.com)- Leupold Tactical Optics pro Charles “Tate” Moots brought home the He-Man Optics division title at the Rocky Mountain 3-Gun Championship in Raton, N.M., Aug. 9-11, 2012.
The Department of Energy officer also won the Top Law Enforcement title against a field of the nation’s best Heavy Metal 3-Gun shooters. He-Man on Heavy Metal shooters must use a .308 caliber rifle, .45 caliber handgun and a 12-guage shotgun. These heavier recoiling firearms give the division its unusual name.
“With the length of some stages and the altitude, Rocky Mountain 3-Gun demands a lot out of the shooter and his gear,” said Tim O’Connor, law enforcement sales manager in Leupold’s Tactical Optics Division. “For Tate to come back so strong from back surgery last year and win the most physically demanding division is no surprise to anyone who knows him.”
Competitors are timed as they shoot targets that can vary from five feet away out to 800 yards. A mixture of paper, steel and breakable targets requires competitors to be fast as well as accurate as they race through stages. Skill with the rifle, shotgun and handgun are required on almost every stage.
Moots’ optic of choice was the Mark 4 MR/T 1.5-5x20mm M2, with the Illuminated CMR2 reticle.
