Officials in Los Angeles County are offering a $20,000 reward for information on the person responsible for a shooting in Altadena last month that left a 4-year-old boy dead.
On July 5, Salvador Esparza was standing outside of a home with his family, next to a family member who was previously involved in a dispute with another man. The man with whom he had the dispute, saw the family member outside, walked up to him and fired more than a dozen shots, striking both the target and the toddler. Both were rushed to the hospital. The man survived, but the young child did not.
Now, more than a month later, authorities said they have some leads, but no suspects. They believe someone may know who is responsible for the shooting, but is refusing to talk out of fear of retaliation. They also believe the suspect has gang ties, but hoping a $20,000 reward will coerce someone to come forward with information.
“If anybody knows any information regarding this please, please don’t be scared to talk,” said Salvador’s mother, Coral. “Please just talk to detectives, or to somebody about it. I really want justice for my son.”
