Bend, Oregon (Ammoland.Com) – On this week’s RMEF Team Elk, Kristy Titus has the honor of hunting with her dad, Lewis, on a DIY public land archery elk hunt in Oregon, which Lewis claims the current success rate is around three percent. The challenge of pressure from other hunters, stormy weather and close encounters leave Kristy and her dad traveling deeper and deeper into Oregon’s mountains. Will they be able to fill their freezer with elk meat? Or will they be the 97 percent who walk away empty-handed? Tune in for RMEF Team Elk on Outdoor Channel Tuesday, February 2 at 4:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. ET.
“For my entire life, I’ve always wanted to be in the woods hunting with my dad,” said Titus. “As a kid, as long as I could be on my mule, that was my happy place. And now I am taking off for opening morning archery elk season with my dad – something we start dreaming about the minute the current season ends.”
Kristy and Lewis are hunting public land in Oregon, and its archery season, so the success rate out of the gate is very low. Pressure from other hunters and stormy weather make for challenging camp days, but the team consistently have smiles on their faces as they climb and descend Oregon’s rough mountainside stalking and calling elk. “We didn’t go to Disneyland or do the things other people do as Kristy was growing up,” said Lewis Titus. “We went up the mountains.”
