USA – -(Ammoland.com)- “A shooting at Marshall County High School in Benton, Ky., left at least two people dead and 17 others injured after a student opened fire on Tuesday, “ Fox News reported Tuesday. “[O]fficials said the alleged shooter, a 15-year-old male student, was in custody and will be charged with murder and attempted murder.”
“Much yet unknown,” Gov. Matt Bevin admitted on Twitter. “Please do not speculate or spread hearsay.”
So naturally, the gun-grabber default is to do just that, as well as to lay blame.
“Our nation’s schools should be some of the safest spaces in our communities,” Gabby Giffords asserted on Facebook. “Why do we keep allowing this terror to happen? We know how to solve this problem. Congress can protect kids in their classrooms, in the cafeteria, and on the playground – but to do that they must strengthen our gun laws.”
Really? Got any specifics, especially before facts on how the suspect got the gun he used are known?
Per CNN, citing State Police Commissioner Richard W. Sanders, “the suspect, armed with a handgun, walked into the school at 8:57 a.m. ET and started shooting.”
And he’s 15?
That means before he ever fired a shot he broke laws to possess the handgun in a lawful manner, to transport it, and to bring it onto school grounds. And it’s already a felony in Kentucky for an adult and/or parent to “unlawfully…intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly” provide or permit a “juvenile to possess a handgun.”
And we also know this about the school in which he (allegedly) carried out his attack:
Adults were mandated to be powerless to protect their charges.
In a sense, Giffords is right.
Our nation’s schools should be some of the safest spaces in our communities. We should not keep allowing this terror to happen and we do know how to solve this problem. Congress can protect kids in their classrooms, in the cafeteria, and on the playground.
But to do that they need to get rid of evil “gun free school zone” edicts that ensure “success” for those who would prey on the defenseless, the weak and the most vulnerable among us.
