Katie Bertino is a California transplant but claims she’s now ‘Texas’ through and through. Since moving to the Lone Star State she’s become a serious advocate for the Second Amendment. She recalls loading shot gun shells at the dining room table with her father. “I thought that was normal for a little girl, but I never considered myself a shooter or hunter… that was for my dad and brother,” she said. “But now things have changed. I got the bug to start shooting a few years ago.”
Her interest started when one of Katie’s girlfriends shared some information about a lady’s shooting league where getting to the advanced level meant that additional activities and training for shooting down range, navigating obstacle courses and learning shooting tactics were offered. Ms. Bertino decided “That’s it! That’s my jam!” and her obsession with shooting began.
Also, upon Katie’s arrival in Texas she began regularly attending a local church that had a security team and she wanted to be on it. Realizing that she would need a CCL license, she took the course and nailed it. She now carries every day and participates in protecting her church every weekend.

Ms. Bertino’s passion and love for shooting inspired her to create and start a business called ‘Good Patriot’ which offers home/wall décor and clothing items that focus on the Faith–Family–Freedom Movement.
Katie Bertino also has a comedic side and likes to bring laughter to her Second Amendment family and friends, so she produces videos with funny skits like ‘Gun Bunny Rehab’ that’s a parody and satire of sorts.
Bertino was looking at the smaller Smith & Wesson MP Shield 9mm pistol because she also had a full-sized Smith & Wesson. But what caught her eye that day was the Kimber Micro 9. As a lady, I liked the colors and it spoke to me because I didn’t really want to have just another black gun.”

Katie tells the story about how her father had saved up for months to buy his dream gun, a Kimber, full-sized 1911. When her father passed, she and her brother went out to the desert to shoot it and she remembers “I was thinking that this 45 is really going to kick and be wild in my. But I shot the thing anyway and to my surprise it was like butter. That’s when I fell in love with Kimbers.”
Her Kimber Micro 9 pistol is now her carry gun of choice. It holds seven rounds and with an extended magazine clip grip, she has plenty of extra pinky support when she’s shooting. “Like all Kimbers, it’s like butter with its hammer action and trigger pull and release.” She feels that like all compact guns the kick can be a bit much but says, “I love this gun because it’s comfortable to carry, solid and weighty but not too heavy to carry it in a holster. I’m absolutely thrilled with my choice.”
Ms. Bertino’s preferred holster is a Sticky. The construction of this holster uses the pressure from your clothing waistband or belt to secure both the holster and the gun. They don’t come with clips or loops to secure it in place, as the outer “sticky” skin adheres to your waistband, undergarments and/or your skin. In addition, with use and body heat, a Sticky Holster will conform to your particular gun, making a custom fit.
Katie also uses another carry option and says, “When wearing tighter fitting clothes as some women do, it’s harder to conceal carry so that’s when I use a small purse with several zip pockets. I carry my magazines in one pocket and my gun in the other. I like to travel light and having a purse that is small with a cross strap keeps me from worrying about someone grabbing my gun off my body”. Katie found her ‘perfect little pouch’ in three colors on Amazon.
Katie’s’ parting words are “Long Live the Second.”
