Albuquerque, NM –-(Ammoland.com)- In this video article you will find a Kahr CM40 handgun review by Jeff Quinn.  The new Kahr CM40 is a subcompact .40 S&W chambered, semi-auto pistol.

It’s the larger caliber brother to the Kahr CM9 Pistol released last year.

From the factory it has a magazine capacity of five rounds plus one in the chamber.

It operates with a double action only trigger and is striker fired.

For a conceal carry gun it has a very nice profile with a width of .94 inches; height of 4.0 inches and total length of 5.47 inches.

Jeff’s video review of this firearm was quite interesting. Rarely have I seen him extend such accolades to a particular gun manufacturer. However, in this review he says that, “I often recommend guns…if someone asks for specifics I often recommend the Kahr….I never hear anything bad about the Kahr pistol.”

In my limited experience the one thing I’ve noticed about Kahr’s, particularly their polymer framed pistols, is that they have a lengthy break-in period before they become reliable.

Kahr’s website recommends a minimum of two-hundred rounds be fired through the firearm during the break in period.

From what I’ve seen that number could potentially be doubled in order to fully rely upon the weapon.

The sad thing about these pistols is that I’ve seen new gun owners (I’m referring to people buying their very first gun) be very frustrated with their new Kahr because the break in period was never discussed with them at the time of purchase.

They get a failure to fire, or a failure to go into battery, or some other malfunction and they really have no idea what is going on and are left wondering if their first firearm is faulty.

My hope is that when a firearm from any manufacturer is purchased from a local gun store that the sales person discusses the break in period (if warranted) with the potential new owner. (In my opinion the break in period is something that needs to be factored into the cost of owning the weapon because ammunition costs keep rising.) Also, the new owner needs to be informed that malfunctions may happen. That’s it’s nothing to be scared of and to be patient with their new purchase while it’s being broken in.

If this conversation takes place then I believe that the local gun store and the gun manufacturer can help manage expectations and have a loyal, lifetime customer.
