Connecticut – -(Ammoland.com)- The Coalition of Connecticut Sportsmen (CCS) provides the ONLY Full-time Lobbying presence in Connecticut during Regular/Special Legislative Sessions, DEP Regulation, & in cities/towns proposing sportsmen restrictions.
CCS successfully supports many proactive bills dealing with pistol permit laws, Firearms, Fishing, Hunting, Trapping, and Licensing & Land Acquisition.
CCS consistently defeats anti-sportsmen bills. Success equals full-time issue representation affecting sportsmen.
RECENT ACTIVITIES
In 2013, No bills were submitted by CCS due to the Dec. 2012 tragedy at Sandy Hook. The General Assembly then convened an unprecedented Bipartisan Task Force to develop legislative proposals to reduce gun violence, enhance school security and improve mental health services through public hearings and public input. Additionally, a Gov’s Task Force was initiated with NO gunowner representation.
AN ACT CONCERNING GUN VIOLENCE PREVENTION AND CHILDREN’S SAFETY was passed by EMERGENCY CERTIFICATION in April after thousands of gunowners came to a Public Hearing 2,000 sportsmen fought to get into the LOB in freezing cold and snow, some for 2 1/2 hours and implemented metal detectors which were present for the other two Public Health & School Security hearings.
Our Lobby Day, and presence on the final vote were to no avail. Included was virtually every anti-gun bill that had failed in the past and no public hearing on the final bill was held. Republican leadership eliminated some issues. Another bill was later passed to correct obvious errors. Sunday Hunting passed the House overwhelmingly but again Failed, and was not Called/Debated by Senate Leadership although we had the votes. A trapping Bill was again defeated.
In 2012, CCS submitted several bills to include Standardization of Pistol Permit Applications, TIP Program Funding, and Expansion of Deer hunting handgun types. NO anti-gun bills were submitted by Judiciary Comm., due to the Sportsmen’s massive Public Hearing attendance/communications on the several submitted in 2011.
BILLS WE HELPED DEFEAT:
- Elimination of the Pheasant Program
- Ban Leg-Hold Traps
- Ban Look-Alike Firearms.
BILLS WE HELPED PASS:
