DENVER (Ammoland.Com) Outdoor Sportsman Group is proud to announce Jana Waller, host of Sportsman Channel’s Skull Bound TV, is receiving a “Distinguished Service Award” from her alma mater, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
This award goes to deserving alumni based on appropriate performance in a given field of interest. Waller is being recognized for her role in promoting the outdoors through hunting
and conservation.
“Jana Waller is a proud alumna of UW-Whitewater and we are proud of the many things she has accomplished in promoting outdoor recreation and conservation,” said Kirby Mills, Assistant Athletic Director for External Relations, UW-Whitewater. “As a female television host, she is paving the way as a pioneer for future women wanting to follow her footsteps.”
“I am incredibly honored to receive a Distinguished Service Award from UW-Whitewater,” said Waller. “I have been passionate about hunting and conservation since my youth and to be able to have a career where I can pass on my passion through television, print and other media has been so rewarding. My success is – in part – due to my Public Relations degree from the University. To be recognized for my work in this field is humbling.”
Waller will be a special guest during a celebratory reception on the evening of November 4 and will be presented with the award during UW-Whitewater’s football game at Perkins Stadium on November 5.
Jana Waller resides in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana where she revels in her passion for hunting and fishing. A bowhunter for 25-plus years, Jana has traveled the globe hunting Africa, Alaska, Canada and all over North America. She is a freelance outdoor writer for numerous websites and hunting magazines and has been featured in Bowhunter Magazine, Sports Afield, Bowhunting World, Turkey Country, Predator Xtreme, Mule Deer Foundation Magazine, Petersenʼs Bowhunting, Montana Magazine, Hunting Illustrated, Earned, Lady Hunter, Buckmasters, Bowfisher Magazine, Texas Bowhunterʼs Journal, as well as CNN.com. With a Bachelorʼs Degree in Public Relations from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Waller has blended her intensity for conservation with her communications background, actively promoting women in the outdoors in both print and TV. She has co-hosted or appeared on numerous national television shows such as “Invasion” on Animal Planet, “Outfitter Bootcamp” on Outdoor Channel and numerous shows on Sportsman Channel.
Currently, Waller is producing and hosting her own TV show – Skull Bound TV – airing on Sportsman Channel. Also a skull artist, sheʼs been painting and beading European skulls for more than a decade, selling her unique artwork in galleries as well as custom designing skulls for enthusiasts across the country.
Waller is a lifetime member of Safari Club International, The Mule Deer Foundation and the National Wild Turkey Federation and an annual member of The NRA, The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Sportsman For Fish & Wildlife, and The Sportsman Alliance. In 2015, she was named “Communicator of The Year” by the National Wild Turkey Federation. Along with being an ardent conservationist, Waller is dedicated to supporting veteran organizations.
