Colorado Springs, CO -(AmmoLand.com)- The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation will be coming to USA Shooting’s International range in Colorado Springs, Colorado this week (August 3-7) for the Scholastic Clay Target Program International-Style National Championships.
Skeet will begin the competition Wednesday and Thursday. Double Trap will be Friday, and the event concludes with Trap on Saturday and Sunday.
The American-Style Trap Nationals was held July 9-16 at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio. Nearly 2,200 athletes representing 28 states faced more than 961,000 clay targets during eight days of competition in the shooting disciplines of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays. Nationally, there are nearly 13,700 students and more than 2,900 coaches from 43 states participating in the Scholastic Clay Target Program and has been providing USA Shooting with skilled shooters for years including 2016 Olympians Vincent Hancock, Morgan Craft and Corey Cogdell-Unrein.
This year’s international program will bring in over 80 athletes to Colorado Springs representing 17 states and 30 different teams across the country. Wisconsin’s SCTP program is robust evident by the 23 athletes set to compete in Colorado this week, 12 more than Arizona. The list of competitors also includes three of USA Shooting’s National Junior Team members and one Junior Olympic Squad member. National Junior Team member Dustin McGowen (Greenwood, Arkansas) will be shooting in all three disciplines as well as Junior Squad member Aaron Wilson (Lansing, Kansas). Nic Moschetti (Broomfield, Colorado) will represent the National Junior Team in skeet, and National Junior Team member Hank Garvey (Newburyport, Massachusetts) will be competing in both double trap and bunker trap.
The Scholastic Clay Target Program, or SCTP for short, encourages shooters of all ages to come and demonstrate their talents. This particular competition will have four divisions: College, Senior, Intermediate, and Open. There will be awards for first through third for teams as well as individuals in each division. They will be awarded at the Banquet following the close of competitions on August 7.
