Six inmates escaped from a Cocke County Jail in Newport, Tennessee, early Sunday morning after removing a toilet from a wall inside the jail.
The sheriff’s office said in a statement that the toilet had previous plumbing issues and apparently a leak loosened the concrete around the toilet and rusted the bolts holding the toilet in place.
Five of the escapees were captured, but the sixth, 54-year-old David Wayne Frazier, remains at large. Authorities said Frazier, who was arrested for aggravated robbery and possession of a weapon by a felon just five days prior to his escape, should be considered dangerous.
Local authorities are working with U.S. Marshals Service to apprehend Frazier.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office at 423-623-3064 or the jail at 423-613-9128.
