Las Vegas, NV -(Ammoland.com)- Honored American Veterans Afield (HAVA) and the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) announce the very successful launch of a new annual Pre-SHOT Show Golf Classic Series that took place on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at the Bear’s Best Golf Club in Las Vegas.
Bear’s Best is a very challenging layout featuring holes designed after golf legend Jack Nicklaus’s (The Bear) best holes on 18 of his other professional-grade courses worldwide. The event was contested in a team scramble format with the team from J.Z. Inc coming in with a winning score of
15-under par in ideal weather conditions. The event provided breakfast and lunch, winner prizes and each player received the gift bag that HAVA distributes to disabled veterans at their major Family Day events.
“The Bear’s Best course is beautiful and all of the teams enjoyed ideal conditions – some more than others, obviously on this day filled with competition and as importantly…fun,” said HAVA Chairman Tom Taylor. “This was an unusual event for us to manage (no guns), but with the assistance of NSSF and show producer Convexx Corp, we were very pleased with the results. Next year, we plan to broaden the event and fully expect a full field of 120+ players.”
“All of the player’s reports on the golf classic were very positive and NSSF is committed to continued support of this event annually to generate some good natured competition among industry teams before the serious business of the SHOT Show begins,” said NSSF’s Senior V.P. and CMO Chris Dolnack. “Hats Off to the companies that supported our inaugural effort, and the good works that HAVA does in acting as our industry’s action arm in serving the disabled veterans and injured active military who defend freedom so valiantly.”
The classic also held a buy-in raffle that included donated guns and a dozen accessory products featuring a valuable Yamaha portable generator from the manufacturer, one of our founding sponsors.
