USA -(Ammoland.com)- The Officers, Board of Directors, and Staff were saddened to hear that Rick Tanner, a former TSRA Service Rifle Director, had passed away.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Karen Tanner; son, Richard Shane Tanner; mother, Lacey Tanner; sister, Angela Riley; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Tanner; and other members of his family and his friends.
Rick Tanner was Service Rifle Director for the Texas State Rifle Association from 2013-2016. He was an avid shooter and advocate for marksmanship training. Rick was also an advocate for juniors getting involved in the shooting sports.
Rick served 5 years as the Officers in Charge (OIC) for the All Guard Rifle Team. Rick also served as the State Marksmanship Coordinator for Texas National Guard and as a firing member and Coach/Captain for 6 Texas National Guard Championship Teams at Wilson Combat Matches.
Some of Rick’s major accomplishments include:
- Distinguished Rifle and Pistol
- Presidents’ 100 at the National Matches
- National Guard Chief’s 50
- National Guard Wilson Combat Match Governor’s 20 (4 Times for Rifle, Pistol, Light Machine Gun, and Sniper Rifle)
Due to his lifelong advocacy for juniors getting involved in the shooting sports, the Texas State Rifle Association has created the Rick Tanner Memorial Fund for those who wish to donate in memory of Rick. All donations will be earmarked for the TSRA Junior Support Program.
Funeral services for Rick Tanner, are scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2017, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with Mr. Steven Newberry officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to service.
