Massachusetts is one of a handful of states that have an assault weapons ban, but Attorney General Maura Healey said in the years the ban has been in affect, gunmakers have produced copycatted versions of the banned firearms in an effort to skirt around the law.
This led Healey to send out a notice earlier this year, stating characteristics that constituted an “assault weapon,” but gun owners and retailers still claim the definition is so vague that – especially when it comes to copycats – they just aren’t sure what’s legal and what’s not.
