IV8888 spent a lot of time with what is set to be the military’s new sidearm, the SIG P320, winner of the Army’s Modular Handgun System, and gives his take on the design.
A veteran, gunsmith and overall firearms wonk, Eric looks at the gun from the aspect of the new contract which has a top out of some $580 million to replace the venerable Beretta M9 which has been in standard service with Uncle since the 1980s.
Of course, the Army’s version, type designated the XM17, is in a nonreflective FDE finish, suppressor-ready and has an external thumb safety, but the overall platform is more or less the same.
